WELCOME TO THE 4th ANNUAL IMPACT A HERO 5K RACE! It’s hard to believe that we are already into our fourth year of the Impact A Hero weekend and specifically, the 5K!!! Over the years, we have seen a lot of enhancements, which have led to increased participation and significant funds for our Heroes! This year we have made even more enhancements: HOUSTON TEXANS WILL BE PARTICIPATING!!! First, we are thrilled to announce the return of Coach Kubiak from the Houston Texans, and that he is asking the Texans players to attend and support the 5K. While we don’t know exactly who will attend, we do know that Coach is making it a personal priority, and is stressing Impact A Hero to the team. Once again, we will have a booth for Coach and the team to sign autographs and take pictures! KILT, FM 100.3 WILL BE PARTICIPATING!!! Second, we are equally thrilled to have KILT, FM 100.3, participating with us this year. If you are a listener of KILT, you will hear some announcements about the race on the station as we get closer to the date, and KILT will also have a booth with give-aways. CHIPS ARE BACK!!! Third, we are going back to the chip timing. We tried to save money last year, and while we did save nearly $1,700, we felt the method we used didn’t work well. MARATHON OIL CORPORATION REPEATS AS TITLE SPONSOR!!! We truly appreciate the continued support of Marathon Oil Corporation! They have supported the Impact A Hero Weekend and the 5K every year. They are repeating as our 5K Title Sponsor and will send us much needed volunteers! NEW LOCATION: Because we are expecting a much larger crowd than last year, we are relocating the event. We are hosting the race at Mercer Stadium in Sugar Land. This will give us plenty of parking spaces, gathering space and starting line setup to handle our expected crowd. You can obtain the details from the here. NEW FUNDRAISING PLAN: SPORTS PACKAGE DRAWING! Last year we raised a gross total of more than $50,000 at the 5K. This year we want to do much better. Therefore we have a new program for you to find sponsors for your participation. This year we are going to hold a drawing for a Houston Sports Package. The package will include at least two (2) tickets for the winner and a guest to the Houston Texans, the Houston Rockets, the Houston Aeros and the Houston Astros! These tickets are good tickets, and may also include the participation of one of our Heroes and their guest. Here’s how you can win! For every $250 you raise in sponsorships you will receive one entry into the drawing. Last year, the largest fundraiser raised over $6,000. This year, that results in 24 entries into the drawing. We are using the Kintera Software to easily manage the sponsorships. It’s very easy to set up by simply following the instructions on the Kintera link. While we are not requiring you to use the Kintera Software, we would like for you to do so as this will make it much easier for us to properly calculate the number of entries for you. The date of our 5K is still the first Saturday following Memorial Day, or May 31, 2008 this year. Last year we had more than 750 people participate in the 5K, and we want to double the number this year. Tell your friends and come out to enjoy a great day with our Heroes!!
